Audio modules / VCV Rack

Seven modules live.
More on the way.

I got into hardware synths a while back and never really stopped tinkering. Building VCV Rack modules felt like a natural next step — so I did. Seven of them are out now, free and open-source, with a few bigger ones in progress.

Modules

Seven utilities, all free and open-source.

LFO
Free
LFO-01
4 HP
Four waveforms, slow/fast range switch, reset trigger. Exponential frequency knob so equal twists give equal ratio changes.
VCA
Free · New
VCA-01
4 HP · Polyphonic
Linear or exponential response. CV is normalled open, so it passes signal the moment you patch it rather than sitting silent.
Envelope
Free · New
ENV-01
6 HP · Polyphonic
ADSR from 1 ms to 10 seconds. Every polyphony channel gets its own envelope, so a sixteen-note chord runs sixteen independent shapes.
Mixer
Free · New
MIX-01
8 HP · Polyphonic
Four channels with individual levels and a clip indicator. The mix is as polyphonic as its widest input.
Clock
Free · New
CLK-01
4 HP
Clock with /1, /2, /4 and /8 division. Reset clears the divider count as well as the phase, so a divided output lands back on the beat.
Noise / S&H
Free · New
NSE-01
6 HP
White or pink noise plus a sample & hold. The S&H input is normalled to the internal noise, so a trigger alone gives you random voltages.
Utility
Free · New
ATT-01
4 HP · Polyphonic
Attenuvert through a centre zero, then add up to ±5V of offset. With nothing patched it becomes a manual DC source.

In development

A bigger set, still being built. These take a lot more work than the utilities, and they will be a commercial release. The seven above stay free either way.

Oscillator
WIP
OSC-01
8 HP · Polyphonic
Anti-aliased saw and pulse with hard sync and pulse width modulation. Still tinkering with getting that analog feel right.
Filter
WIP
FLT-02
8 HP · Polyphonic
Four-pole ladder filter with resonance compensation and overdrive. One of those rabbit holes I enjoy going down.
Synth voice
WIP
SYN-01
14 HP · Polyphonic
Complex oscillator voice — two oscillators, FM, a wavefolder and a low-pass gate. The big one, and the one I am most excited about.

About

I'm just someone who loves tinkering. New things, new challenges — that's what keeps it interesting. Music and electronics crossed paths at some point and I never looked back.

The Korg Volca series got me hooked on hardware. Then came the Elektron Digitakt and Syntakt, and it clicked — buttons, knobs, patch cables. No menus, no presets. Just hands-on.

Building VCV Rack modules is one of those things I love doing. It started with one LFO and turned into a small range of utilities, all free. The bigger modules are where the tinkering is taking me next.

  • Early Music and electronics as separate hobbies. Didn't know they'd eventually crash into each other.
  • Volca Picked up the Korg Volca range. Small boxes, lots of fun — something clicked.
  • Elektron Digitakt, then Syntakt. Hardware sequencing, real knobs, no undo button.
  • VCV Discovered VCV Rack. Virtual modular — endless rabbit holes, zero patch cables to untangle.
  • 2026 LFO-01 ships. First Volders module, free and open-source, live in the VCV Library.
  • 2026 Six more utilities follow — VCA, envelope, mixer, clock, noise and attenuverter. All free.
  • Now Building OSC-01, FLT-02 and SYN-01. Bigger modules, more DSP, more rabbit holes.
